Which Press Fitting is Better - "M" profile or "V" profile?

Which one is better and more beneficial than the other, M" profile or the "V" profile? In the following article, we will try to analyze and break down the facts of this eternal discussion by examining the physical as well as technical properties of both press fittings to find out the differences and then use these differences to drive our conclusion as to which of these two rivals perform better in the field.

In plumbing applications, one of the most difficult questions we are faced with is whether to choose either the "M" or "V" press fitting profiles. In general situations, the selection is made on the basis of preference of the installer. If a professional is used to opt for, let’s say V" press fitting, he will hardly go for the other. The rational motivation behind this developed habit is that they both, "M" and "V" profiles, are valid. The selection is hardly based on the preference for efficiency.

When we talk about press fittings, we mostly speak about M or V profiles! But do we understand the difference between these two? On the technical level, we can describe the most visible difference between them as the presence of collar in V Profile, whereas M profile press fittings does not have any “collar.” But of these press fittings uses the same pressing equipment, although there is quite a difference in their jaws and chains.

To further investigating the variance, some of the experimental tests were conducted on the two competitors. Results shed light on the fact that the use of jaws stated valid for both the profiles, "M" and "V", has led to cases of pressings with unwanted losses. V press fittings precisely have “stalk” located immediately after the pressing chamber, making the process of pipe insertion a better option compared to the “M" profiles. But at the same time, the presence of stalk makes it quite difficult to check the proper positioning of o-ring.

Conclusion:

In various sites, numerous professionals work with the press fittings of their choice. As a professional, it gets very difficult to recommend one over another, as previously stated, the selection between these two press fittings is a matter of habit. In certain cases, installer tends to choose the easily available one, rather than based on “presumed" technical factors.
